Veterinary Support

It is really important to locate a veterinarian who is interested in caring for or willing to care for llamas. This is not to say that you are necessarily going to have problems, but it is a real hassle to find a vet in a sudden emergency. Get to know the vet, have the vet over to give routine care and exams, etc. before there is any potential problem.

Finding a vet

  • Ask the seller to recommend a vet in your area (works only locally, usually, but sometimes they can ask their vet, who can recommend another vet in your area.) It never hurts to ask.
  • Ask a regional association for their list of veterinarians.
  • Ask a local "large animal" vet if he/she would be interested in taking on llamas as "clients"
  • Ask a veterinary school in your area for recommendations.
  • Search though LlamaWeb's list of veterinarians practicing camelid medicine to find a vet near you.
